For this series of gestural spontaneous drawings, I elected to blindfold myself, thus temporarily disabling my eyes—considered to be an artist’s most important tool.
Surprisingly, however, if one speaks to a lot of artists, one will likely find many who would say that much of an artist’s ‘vision,’ as we will call it, rises less from looking outward and is formed from a feeling, sensation, or an intellectual or inspirational spark that materializes into something solid or visual. Even some of the most ephemeral artworks, with the exception of sound art, have some
material visual presence.
So, what then does it mean when an artist deliberately disengages her vision?
